The Wrap Up – August, 2018

I thought I might try something with this post; start a monthly summary of everything collecting related that’s happened in the last month. I thought it’d be a good way to look back at what I’ve picked up, what I’ve written, read, played and experienced in the world of collecting. So, without further ado lets begin…

August finally saw me able to get back into playing Magic: The Gathering properly. Since moving to the UK in 2016 I hadn’t really been able to play as there wasn’t any play groups around me. However, having now moved to Southsea I have two stores that have regular game night.

Not really having a Standard deck I bought a few new cards and put together a Red/Black Pirates deck that run okay but needs a bit of adjustment. I also picked up a Core Set 2019 Bundle Box and pulled some decent Rare cards, including a Mythic in the form of the Liliana, Untouched By Death planswalker card.

My wife gifted me with a really cute laughing Sonic the Hedgehog plus. I’d found it on eBay and suggested it as a Christmas gift, but she decided to give it to me early. I’m such a lucky bloke! 😀

I also had a big of a win at one of the local charity shops where I found the third in the series of Real Ghostbusters annuals released by Marvel UK in the late 80’s.

I was finally able to complete the two classic Sega games Shenmue and Shenmue II. While I have both for the Dreamcast, I only played the original but was never able to finish it. Thanks to the re-release I was able to experience these wonderful games. (If you’re interested you can read my thoughts on Shenmue and Shenmue II HERE and HERE, respectively.)

A few months back I decided to take up the GoodReads Reading Challenge and decided to try and read 30 books this year. August saw me get my read-so-far total up to 19, having finished off graphic novels Dragon Age: Knight Errant and Akira volumes 1 through 6 as well as novels 1984 and Dragon Age: Hard in Hightown.

Most exciting though was seeing my first article for collecting website Gemr.com go live. Looking at the history of my favourite toy line, Mighty Max, it was a blast to write. I’ve got more coming, but if you’ve not checked out the Max article yet, you can do so HERE.

That does it for August. As I said, I’m planning to do one of these wrap-ups each month so I hope you come back for the September Wrap-Up.
